We love dubstep. Some of the music we like is marketed as dubstep but is not dubstep. This is because lazy-arsed record label lackeys and unimaginative journalists can’t be bothered to come up with some appropriately descriptive language. There’s a whole bunch of artists from the USA, particularly based on the west coast, who are in this category. They are not making dubstep.
One such is California’s Flying Lotus aka Steven Ellison. His music is more in the vein of experimental, mostly instrumental hiphop or psychedelic electronica than dubstep. In 2008, Flying Lotus launched Brainfeeder, an all-digital outlet for Flying Lotus and other similar-minded producers. He manages the imprint alongside influential radio DJ Andrew Meza and rising graphic artist Ques.
Brainfeeder is our kind of label. Check out their releases HERE.
