The Mercury Music Prize becomes just another tool of the rapidly self-dismantling mainstream music industry. It’s a shame – some of the previous nominees were talented up-and-coming artists who deserved their brief moment of publicity on a broader stage. Anyway – here’s a comment on the recently announced nominations for this year’s awards.

I can remember a time when the actual award of the Mercury music prize would barely warrant column inches, let alone the announcement of the nominees.
