Music high earners list

July 18, 2010 has published a list of the highest earners in the music world over the last 12 months. You can read their news item HERE.

Here’s the list:

  1. U2: $130m (£84.9m)
  2. AC/DC: $114m (£74.5m)
  3. Beyonce Knowles: $87m (£56.8m)
  4. Bruce Springsteen: $70m (£45.7m)
  5. Britney Spears: $64m(£41.8m)
  6. Jay-Z: $63m (£41.1m)
  7. Lady Gaga: $62m (£40.5m)
  8. Madonna: $58m (£37.9m)
  9. Kenny Chesney: $50m (£32.6m)
  10. Black Eyed Peas/Coldplay: $48m (£31.3m)

Holy crap! It shows the appalling state of the mainstream music industry if this bunch are the highest earners. Has any of them created anything even remotely original, creative or life-changing in the last several years? Or ever, in many cases? It just shows that the general public will buy any old crap if you play it at them often enough. It’s depressing.

I agree that the amounts of money they make are … well, just to big for me to grasp!
But I must state that Bruce Springsteen has been producing hundreds of original songs of lasting quality and beauty for nearly forty years. Many of his most hauntinly beautiful songs do not fall into the category of commercial work and is hardly ever performed in his concerts, because they are just not made for a big arena. He is an artist of immense talent and productivity and has brought pleasure, fun, inspiration and pure joy to millions of people – and is still doing so at a very fit and sexy sixty.

Most of those folk aren’t making new music!

Even as a diehard U2 fan I’m sure they have made that much bank from there new album. Mainly because it’s well written, complex and intelligent.

Let us know what you think of this post. Thanks!
