BBC response to a complaint about Asian Network shows

March 3, 2010

I complained to the BBC about plans to axe Pathaan‘s and Nerm‘s shows, before we heard about plans to shut down the entire BBC Asian Network. Just had this reply:

Thanks for your e-mail.

We’re sorry if you’re disappointed that ‘Electro East’ and ‘Pathaan’s
Musical Rickshaw’ are ending.

The programmes have been running on the BBC Asian Network for nearly four years. We regularly refresh our schedules and it’s not unusual for programmes to change or finish. Our commitment to specialist music is unchanged as can be seen elsewhere in our output, notably Bobby Friction
(Mondays to Thursdays at 10pm), DJ Kayper (Fridays at 10pm), and Panjabi Hit Squad and Mic Check on Saturday evenings.

Nevertheless, please be assured that your comments have been included in our audience log. This is circulated widely within the BBC and made available to many BBC staff, including members of the BBC Executive Board, channel controllers and other senior managers.

Thanks again for taking the time to contact us with the strength of your views.
