Mongolian hiphop

October 15, 2009

Hiphop has truly become the universal musical language, probably because it can work with any musical form that contains rhythm and there’s always people with something to say!

Here’s a blog article about Mongolian hiphop: The Birth of Mongolian Hiphop

Seems like there’s a variety of views being expressed by Mongolian rappers, some blatantly nationalistic and racist but others about family and being responsible citizens. Not much about bitches, hos and bling.

I’ve heard it said that french is the best language to rap in, and although it’s good, I’ve always enjoyed something different. To the uninitiated (i.e. me) this mongolian variant seems to have a lot on common with Russian??!

Anyway, be sure to checkout Tiawanese rappers “Kou Chou Ching” ( and especially their excellent album “Kou!! It’s Coming Out!!!”

They have been mixing traditional Nan-Guan, Taiwanese Recital Chants, Taiwanese opera, Hakka Eight Notes, Taiwanese and aboriginal songs with Hip-Hop, Reggae and other popular music styles.
