British Government will not introduce laws about ‘piracy’

January 28, 2009

Every now and then a politician does something sensible. The UK’s Intellectual Property minister David Lammy has announced that the Government will not force internet service providers to pursue file sharers.

Feargal Sharkey,  head of the music industry body UK Music, says he believes 80% of file-sharers would be prepared to pay for a legitimate file-sharing service.  There may be some truth in that. What is certain is that prosecuting file-sharers achieves nothing.
