Nomads’ Festival, M’hamid, Morocco
March 20, 2010
I’ve just returned from a trip to M’hamid in southern Morocco with the Talking Dog (another member of Secret Archives of the Vatican). We went to the seventh annual Nomads’ Festival. Here’s a link to just some of the photographs we took:

We recorded some of the performances, so we’ll hopefully get some tunes into our next podcast.

Hi Vince
I’ve just bought flight tickets to Morocco specifically to go to the Nomad festival in M’hamid … your photographs are amazing. Do you have any tips to enjoy it at best?
Thank you in advance

Hi Monica. There was a stage in the village and another one out of town. They’ll try to charge you to get in to the out of town one but all the locals simply walked across the desert, bypassing the official gate! Our hotel man went and found us all area access passes, hence the good photos for the town stage.
Expect disorganisation, no concept of things happening as scheduled, and you’ll be fine! Make the effort to cross the Draa and see the real old village on the other side among the fields and palm trees (past the hotel complexes). Just follow the locals. There’s an amazing old Marabout’s tomb worth seeing (see pictures) but you’re not allowed inside it.
The hotel guys were extremely helpful so I’d recommend the place. There’s a photo so you can see what it looks like. It’s right where the bus will drop you off anyway. There’s only really one main street so you can’t miss it!

Thank you Vince! very nice of you. I will treasure yout advise.
Disorganisation, no schedule and improvisation …. this is what we are looking for!!! I’m sure it will be a great experience!!
We’re already in contact with the hotel to arrange accomodation and festival support.
Now I’m only waiting to be there!
If you ever come to Italy and you need any suggestion, do not hesitate to contact me.
ciao
